Atlanta Sustainable Building Ordinance Update:
The Atlanta City Council unanimously voted (14-0) to hold the Atlanta Sustainable Building Ordinance ("ASBO") for the new administration and new City Council. This additional time will allow us to work with the City and Sustainable Atlanta to draft an ordinance that truly meets the needs of our City. We will continue to update our membership on this important topic as new information occurs. Thank you again for your support.
Atlanta Sustainable Building Ordinance
On Tuesday, December 1, the Atlanta City Council’s Community Development/Human Resources Committee moved forward the Atlanta Sustainable Building Ordinance (“ASBO”) with no recommendation. While there was no vote, the ASBO will now go before the full City Council next Monday, December 7. The CD/HR Committee voted against Amendment 6, which would have made the ASBO voluntary for existing buildings until such time that the Council adopted financial incentives for the development community. The Committee did approve Amendment 5, which NAIOP and the Metro Atlanta Real Estate Trade Group push for. This amendment exempts (i) new commercial buildings of 1500 square feet or less or $300,000 in cost of construction and (ii) projects in existing buildings not exceeding either 5,000 square feet or $250,000 in cost of construction from the ASBO. Attached is the latest revision of the ASBO along with the amendments that have been approved.
We ask that you continue to voice your strong support for sustainability but your opposition to this version of the ASBO. Please contact the Atlanta City Council Members below to express your support for a voluntary, incentive-based ordinance.

NAIOP Georgia is prepared to inform and help our members react to proposed laws, fees, regulations and other enactments which may have a negative impact on the industry.
Our governmental affairs goals are:
To advocate and lobby for the commercial real estate industry
